MEETING AND DEPARTURE OF PARTICIPANTS
Tonfano Pier, Pietrasanta (43°55’36.20”N, 10°11’56.87”E), 002 above the sea level. The cars, divided in columns of 15 each, preceded and
followed by the cars of the organising team, will enter the track drawn on the beach and will head for Pietrasanta to make the first stop in Piazza
ARRIVAL IN PIETRASANTA
Pietrasanta, Città Nobile is located in the Province of Lucca, more precisely in Versilia, of which it has always been considered the historic
capital. The centre of the city life develops around Piazza Duomo (Duomo square), which divides the city in two parts. The Duomo, named after
San Martino (1256), Palazzo Pretorio, the Theatre, St. Agostino Church and other noble palaces overlook the square.
The origin of the name "Seravezza" does not, as one might think, derive from the name of the two torrents that cross the town (Serra and Vezza).
The exact opposite is true: it is the town that gives the name to the two torrents. The name Seravezza, on the other hand, derives from the
Longobard landmark, Sala Vetitia, indicating a trade centre. The town houses Villa Medicea of Seravezza (built in 1560), a summer residence of
the Medici family.
WITH FOOD & WINE TASTING
Levigliani is the town of marble near which develop Antro del Corchia (Italy’s largest karst cavity) and the
noteworthy "Cava del Piastraio" quarry, characterised by a two-level gallery accessible by off-road vehicles.
Here, we will stop at Circolo Cavatori (The Quarrymen’s Club) where we will taste – and, at one’s own
discretion, also buy – delicious local products.
THE PANORAMAS OF PASSO CROCE
Travelling along the mountain roads, we will enjoy a unique panorama that opens a stunning view from the
coast of Livorno to the Gulf of La Spezia, allowing (weather permitting) to admire part of the islands of the
Tuscan archipelago, including, in the distance, also Corsica.
Visit to the quarry
CAVA DEI TAVOLINI
Through the striking paths we will reach the quarry “Cava dei Tavolini”, located on Mount Corchia,
one of the peaks of the Apuan Alps, known all over the world for the beauty of the marble
extracted and for its breathtaking scenery.
Visit to the quarry
CAVA DEL PIASTRAIO
The quarry “Cava del Piastraio” is characterised by two distinct areas, both accessible by your own
off-road vehicle. The first part is “open air”, while the second is underground. It’s not difficult to
imagine the amazement that this may result in a “natural cathedral” of marble, with large
windows facing out. These quarries were opened in the 16th century and produced a stone called
Breccia Medicea (or Breccia di Stazzema), a variety of coloured marble mixed with other rocks.
TRE FIUMI, ARNI and PIAN DELLA FIOBA
Starting from 2:30 pm, we will cross Tre Fiumi, a rough and wild basin at about 750 metres above the sea
level, then we will leave the province of Lucca heading for Massa-Carrara, passing through Galleria del
Tecchia in a a succession of breathtaking panoramas, and finally reaching Pian della Fioba. After a short
break we will continue our way to Carrara Exhibition Centre, crossing some typical villages of the Apuan
Alps and the city of Massa, capital of the Province.
AT 4X4 FEST IN CARRARA
The tour ends with the arrival at Carrara Exhibition Centre. For those who are interested, the federation
staff will support you on the track set up by federal instructors allowing you to test your vehicle on the sand
of the promenade of Marina di Carrara. At the end, you can park your vehicle for free and visit the 17th
edition of 4X4 Fest Exhibition.
